Wow. Thanks. There was a very similar incident in the Pacific on the (I think) Indianapolis in 1944 or 1945. It's referred to in a very touching moment in the movie "Jaws" when Richard Dreyfus' character asks Robert Shaw's character where he got his scars. I just can't even imagine such a thing. I like the way the guy thought about it though. You just get through it. It's kind of the way I felt about my husband being sick for 10 years before he passed. You just get through it. There's nothing that scares me anymore either. Great story. Thanks for sharing it.
