Poker Lite

The reason you have not been reading much in my poker blog lately is because I have been trying to cut back on my online playing and have not been to a casino lately except for my one visit in Phoenix last week. I did win a single table SNG tournament last night, but got crushed on the Omaha table...still netting a small win. I read something interesting in Tiffany Michelle's blog today, "Poker is a roller coaster.... ride it without barfing". I think that sums up my thoughts about it today.

Arizona Poker

Needing to play on the last day before losing my comps at Harrah's I convinced my brother in law to drive to the AK CHIN Harrah's Casino outside of Phoenix. They had a decent 3/6 game going with a "splash pot" every hour which consisted of adding $50 preflop to the pot. I just missed collecting on two of them with a gutshot straight draw to my K/10, and a 9 high straight on the turn which filled up for pocket 7's on the river. The day was not a total loss, $140, as I hit a small jackpot on the slots for a $27 win. But, most importantly I kept my comps that were due to expire that day and the free nights offers in Vegas that I plan to use later this year.

Legion Poker Problem

After rushing back to the beach on Friday just in time to play in the Legion tournament I got very bad news. There was some problem with the legality of our tournament and after a visit by Oregon State Patrol we are out of business until the city council can meet in a couple of months. Evidently the way we were originally set up was incorrect for the ordinance it fell under. It may take a couple of months to straighten out. This is depressing.

High Hand at the Moose

O.K., so I am totally in agreement getting rid of the ridiculous "first hand" bonus. That was just too dumb for words. Frank "the tank", was telling me about one like that which reached over $100,000, but the big difference is that it did not change daily...whatever that first hand was, just remained the first hand. Makes a huge difference. You would not have to constantly refer to the board every day and hope you remembered the cards.

Last night I hit the high hand for a $250 win. Playing pocket 5's, I raised to $6 in middle position. With a lot of callers, the flop was K/10?/5, all spades. I checked, and Frank bet around $12. which I called. The turn, another spade, Frank bets $20 and I call. At that point I say "pair the board!", which Bryon courteously does with the case 5! I then say, "well, since I asked for it, I better bet it", and bet $20. Frank immediately raises me another $20, which I reraise my last $3. Frank turns over pocket kings!!!! Ouch and ouch again, set over set!!!

My biggest loss of the day turns out to be against "horshoe up the kazoo" Ramon. He raises $5 preflop with pocket 3's. I call with pocket 5's. The flop is beautiful for both of us, 3/4/6. I put him on either big cards or a bigger pair and when he bets $5, I raise to $25 with the pair plus the open ender, which he instacalls. The turn, bingo, 7. Ramon checks, I bet $20 and he calls. I post $20 in the dark, and the river is.....another 7!!! Sheesh, he raises, I call and he wins a $100. from me! Overall though a very good evening for me with a net win of $325.

My new year's resolution in effect to quit after getting up $200 or more, I leave as soon as I am paid for the high hand. Did the same Monday with a $218 win. Good week so far. Tonight is the new Moose Omaha tournament at 5:30. I already like it better than the cable's with more starting chips. Be there or be square.
